Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs

Naturally dyed Easter eggs may take a little longer, but the results are well worth the effort! Every natural dye can produce unexpected results. So have fun experimenting with different combinations. Then, decorate your home with these beautiful natural color combinations.

  • What you need: 

  • 2 cups shredded red cabbage
  • 2 beets, grated
  • The outer skins of 4 yellow onions
  • 16 oz of sliced blueberries
  • 2 Tbsp turmeric
  • Water
  • Vinegar

What to do: 

  1. Prepare eggs: Place eggs in large pot and cover with at least one inch of water.
  2. Bring to rolling boil. Let boil for one minute. Remove from heat and cover.
  3. Let sit for 10 minutes in hot water. Transfer eggs to ice cold water.
  4. Once eggs have cooled, rinse with soapy water to remove oils and maximize the color potential.

Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs Blue

Robins’ Egg Blue:

  1. Boil red cabbage in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat.
  3. Strain colored water into small bowl.
  4. Allow to cool.
  5. Add 2 Tbsp of vinegar for every 2 cups of colored water. 
  6. Completely submerge eggs into colored water.
  7. Let sit overnight for deepest color.

Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs RedAC

Fuchsia:

  1. Boil beets in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat.
  3. Strain colored water into small bowl.
  4. Allow to cool.
  5. Add 2 Tbsp of vinegar for every 2 cups of colored water.
  6. Completely submerge eggs into colored water.
  7. Let sit overnight for deepest color.

Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs Orange

Orange:

  1. Boil yellow skins in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat.
  3. Strain colored water into small bowl.
  4. Allow to cool.
  5. Add 2 Tbsp of vinegar for every 2 cups of colored water.
  6. Completely submerge eggs into colored water.
  7. Let sit overnight for deepest color.

Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs yellow

Yellow:

  1. Boil turmeric in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat.
  3. Pour colored water into small bowl.
  4. Allow to cool.
  5. Add 2 Tbsp of vinegar for every 2 cups of colored water.
  6. Completely submerge eggs into colored water.
  7. Let sit overnight for deepest color.

Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs Green and Grey

Speckled Grey/Green:

  1. Boil blueberries in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat.
  3. Strain colored water into small bowl.
  4. Allow to cool.
  5. Add 2 Tbsp of vinegar for every 2 cups of colored water.
  6. Completely submerge eggs into colored water.
  7. Let sit overnight for deepest color.

Green eggs

Green:

  1. Soak eggs in red cabbage mixture for at least one hour.
  2. Then, soak eggs in turmeric for at least one hour.
